Frequently Asked Questions

Medication can be helpful, but it’s not always a complete solution. Often, counseling is required in addition to medication. Our collaboration is aimed at understanding the challenges you face, as well as identifying your existing skills and resources to help you achieve your objectives.

A therapist has specialized training to help you overcome challenges and learn new skills, giving you a fresh perspective. Weston Family Pyschology clinicians create a safe and confidential space to express yourself without fear of judgment. During our work together, we’ll help you discover your strengths and develop strategies to manage the problems you’re facing. Remember, it’s perfectly normal to seek assistance when needed, and everyone can benefit from having a guide. If you’re considering taking your first step towards positive change, please get in touch with us.

A Licensed Clinical Psychologist meets all the requirements for the independent practice of psychology, both in terms of education, supervised clinical practice, and other requirements to be licensed.

A Psychology Resident has a university diploma (doctoral degree) and is in the process of completing supervised experience. A Psychology Resident works under the supervision of a Licensed Psychologist.

It’s important to keep in mind that seeking therapy is a common and normal thing to do. When you go to therapy, you or your child can expect to speak with a therapist who is both knowledgeable and compassionate (and humorous at times!). Additionally, therapy is more than just sharing your concerns. You will learn helpful coping strategies you can use outside the session and how to set attainable goals you can work toward alongside your therapist. Also, because each person has different issues and goals for therapy, sessions will be different depending on the individual. The clinicians at Weston tailor their approach to the client’s specific needs.

The length of therapy or counseling varies based on individual situations, commitment levels, and reasons for seeking treatment. While it’s difficult to give an exact time frame on a general FAQ page, most clients see significant progress within the first 8 sessions. At Weston Family Psychology, our goal isn’t to keep you in treatment indefinitely but to facilitate improved coping skills. We focus on giving you tools and insights to better manage your challenges.
Weston Family Psychology offers evidence-based treatment for patients who are dealing with a variety of mental health issues, such as stress, anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma, and educational challenges. We provide child and family psychological services for these specialties and other life challenges.
At our clinic, neuro-educational interventions are crafted to address a diverse spectrum of academic challenges faced by individuals. Some of them are reading difficulties (dyslexia), writing challenges, mathematics difficulties, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), learning disabilities, social and emotional learning, transition support (e.g., school to college), and cognitive skills enhancement. If you have specific concerns or questions regarding academic challenges, our experts are here to provide tailored support and guidance.
A psychoeducational evaluation focuses on understanding academic performance through a specific set of tests. It aims to identify an individual’s strengths, challenges, and learning styles within the academic context. In contrast, a neuroeducational evaluation takes a more comprehensive approach, incorporating neuropsychological components that can impact learning. This evaluation goes beyond academics, providing a deeper understanding of cognitive processes and their influence on educational functioning. By examining both academic and neurological factors, a neuroeducational evaluation offers a holistic perspective of an individual’s overall learning profile.

During the initial consultation, our primary focus is understanding your needs and concerns. Following this discussion, we carefully assess your situation to recommend a therapist who is most qualified and best suited to help you. Our goal is to provide personalized and effective support on your journey toward well-being.

While we don’t prescribe medication directly, we collaborate closely with the broader community and can facilitate communication with qualified professionals who can address your medication needs. We can provide referrals to give you access to comprehensive care that combines therapeutic support with the expertise of medical professionals when necessary. Your well-being is our priority, and our collaborative approach aims to provide holistic and effective solutions tailored to your individual requirements.

It’s entirely normal for children to feel nervous about speaking to a therapist. To prepare your child, you can frame the experience positively and emphasize the opportunity for growth and learning. Explain that time with the therapist is meant to be enjoyable and constructive. As a parent, your confidence in their positive experience can play a crucial role. Reassure your child that the therapist is there to support and guide them in a safe and nurturing environment. If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s therapy sessions, please feel free to reach out.
